1. What
if I don't have any apparent damage?
Over half of the property owners and associations we helped last year didn't
think anything was wrong. The damage done by hail or a hurricane is particularly
insidious. It is often out of sight and cumulative, building up over time
until one day . . . catastrophe. Damage to a roof can cause a variety of
problems. Structural damage can happen when moisture accumulates underneath
the shingles on the roof deck. The wooden structure can decompose, and when
it does you incur major construction expenses. Also, an unexpected leak
can cause the loss of cherished heirlooms. What if water damage causes mold?
The potential health risks could be deadly. Plus, having to deal with damage
to your property is often aggravating, frustrating and very time consuming.
Not only do you have to coordinate roofing, siding, gutter, and window companies
but you also have to deal with the insurance company, attempting to get
everything you are entitled to receive. Damage caused by hail and wind isn't
selective. If other properties in your area are getting a new roof, siding,
gutters or windows, your property is probably damaged too.
2. What if my property needs emergency repairs?
We will immediately perform any roofing, siding, gutter, or window related
emergency repairs and provides you with our Emergency Hotline telephone
number for any other immediate needs prior to final authorization from your
insurance company.
3. What if my insurance company has only agreed to a partial replacement?
If your claim was partially or completely rejected, allow one of our certified
Field Supervisors to give you an honest second opinion. The inspection is
FREE. If we determined that the exterior damage is an insurable loss, we
will suggest that you contact your insurance company and request that a
different adjuster re-inspect the property with our Field Supervisor present
to point out the damage. You are welcome to either attend or not attend
these inspections. We will keep you apprised on a daily basis of how things
are progressing.
4. How much will this cost?
All inspections are FREE. If we do not find sufficient damage to justify
your insurance claim, we will tell you and it won't cost anything to know
that your property is safe. If we find damage and the insurance company
agrees to replace your roof, siding, gutters or windows, plus any incidentals
that are damaged, the only cost is the amount of the insurance deductible.
5. What's the difference between a contractor that specializes in insurance
restoration work and one that doesn't?
Addressing all of the insurance restoration issues is usually more time
consuming than completing the actual repairs. Most contractors do not normally
deal with the complexities of working with insurance companies. We do this
hundreds of times a day.
6. Can you file my insurance claim for me?
Insurance companies require that the policy holder files their own claim,
not the contractor. But we can certainly help you. However, once the claim
is filed, our Field Supervisor and Management staff will make sure that
your insurance company pays for everything that you are entitled to receive.
This includes determining the entire scope of work, meeting with the adjustor
and seeing the project through to completion and files a claim.
7. Should I call my insurance company and file a claim before you come out?
If there is apparent damage to your roof or siding, water is leaking in or siding has blown off, obviously, you
should contact the insurance provider right away. Be sure to mention
these problems to our Field Supervisor when he comes out, and he will
arrange for an emergency repair to be made to minimize any additional
damage (deleted text) before an adjustor can get to your property and
approve the replacement. If you only suspect you have damage, it is
better to have our Field Supervisor inspect the property first. After he
has made a thorough evaluation, he will be able to advise you on the
severity of damage, how to proceed and then will meet the adjuster at your property to make sure
nothing is overlooked.
8. All the other properties in the area got a new roof or siding, why
were we turned down?
This is the insurance restoration question we hear the most. This is unfortunate
because the answer is probably that you didn't choose a contractor that
specializes in insurance restoration work. Occasionally an insurance adjuster
might accidentally overlook damage. That's why working with a qualified
professional is a wise decision. Hail and strong winds aren't selective.
If surrounding property owners suffered damage, then chances are you did
too. In these cases we will suggest that you call your insurance company
and request an inspection by a different adjustor. Our Field Representative
will be there for all future inspections to show the new adjustor the damage
we've found.
9.What does hail damage look like?
Sometimes hail damage is obvious and anyone can spot it, but sometimes it
takes a trained professional to know what to look for. The easiest thing
to do is look for ancillary damage on soft metal items (gutters, vents or
window wraps). Similarly, hail damage to aluminum siding is very obvious.
On a roof, however, hail damage can be very deceiving. Hail stones strike
the asphalt mat, "bruising" the shingles and loosening the granules. As
time goes by and rain and snow sweep over the roof, the granules will be
washed away, exposing a hole in the shingle. Problems like this could take
a year or more to manifest themselves, but you don't want to wait that long.
Have the roof checked as soon as you suspect that it may have been damaged.
10. What type of warranty do you have?
Regardless of whether we are replacing a steep slope or flat roof, siding,
gutters or windows, American Building Contractors offers the best manufacturers
and workmanship warranty in the industry. ABC has worked on literally tens
of thousands of projects and we realize word-of-mouth advertising is critical.
We want to make sure that when the last nail is pounded, each and every
customer is completely satisfied with the work we've done. If a warranty
issue arises, simply call our office and talk to one of our friendly customer
service representatives. He will schedule a repair technician to come out
immediately.
